Cat Tail Acres - Spring 2013
INTRODUCING CAT TAIL ACRES SANCTUARY's NEW "SPONSOR-A-CAT" PROGRAM! Greetings Cat Tail Acres Sanctuary Supporters! We're sure you are as glad as we are to be welcoming Spring. The cats are stirring with the extended daylight hours, and keep telling me to hurry up and get the outdoor screened porch finished for them. Work had to stop over the winter months, and because we are depending upon the labor of volunteers, we've had to be patient while they fit this project in since they have regular jobs. But I'm happy to report that the porch is almost finished, and if the weather cooperates, the cats will be in there sometime in April. Things are humming along well here at the Sanctuary. We now have a regular group of board members and volunteers who come out regularly to help me clean and care for the cats, and are very grateful for this support. Let me know if you are interested in volunteering in this way: [email protected]
We are introducing a new Sponsor-a-Cat program which we believe should help us raise much needed funds to pay the considerable costs of caring for 200 cats (see our 2012 Financial Summary on page 3 of this newsletter). Realize that in 2012 we spent over $20,000 on cat food and over $21,000 on veterinary medicines and veterinarian services (like spay/neuter, vaccinations)....and we get food in bulk at discount and donated food not counted in the food total, and large discounts for veterinary medicines and services.
This new sponsorship program has two components: support from people who have given us cats; and from those who haven't but who appreciate our unique work on behalf of feral and unwanted cats.
First, to those of you from whom we have taken a cat or cats: please realize that we simply cannot afford to care for those cats without your financial support. We were there when you needed us, in most cases had nowhere else to turn, and without us the cat(s) would have been euthanized or allowed to live a rough life outdoors without being a cared-for, managed colony--- so the least you can do is help us pay for their care. A very small monthly sponsorship donation of $20-30 a cat will cover the costs of their care.
As for those of you who haven't given us cats, but who love cats and support our efforts, we hope you will consider "Sponsoring" one of our many cats as if you were adopting it yourself...but without having to actually take the cat into your home. For example, many people had pets in the past but no longer have them for any number of reasons: you are getting older and do not want to be in a position where your pets might outlive you; you have moved into housing where pets are not allowed; you are a student in college and cannot have a pet where you live and are too busy to take on that responsibility; your work schedule is too busy to have a pet waiting for you at home; your lifestyle has changed and having a pet is not a good fit; or you or someone else in your household is allergic to animals. But you do love animals and cats in particular. So...you could pick out one of our cats who appeals to you and help financially support his or her care. By sponsoring one of our cats, you can do something truly meaningful that will make you feel good, help us, and most of all, help the individual cat you choose! You can come and visit your cat, or if you live too far away to do that, we can send you updates and photos from time to time. So please look over the cats we are featuring in this, and subsequent, newsletters, or ...go to our website www.CatTailAcres.com to see even more photos of cats you can sponsor. You can make your sponsorship donations in small amounts monthly, or if you find it more convenient, in quarterly, bi-annual, or one lump sum annual donations. You donations can be mailed, or made online at our website through PayPal. All your sponsorship donations are tax deductible. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email us: [email protected] or write to us at P.O. Box 183164, Shelby Twp, MI 48318.
Thanks to each and every one of you who has been supporting us, and we will continue to work hard to honor your trust in us.

My owner was taking me to the pound because she was going on vacation (how's that for a lousy excuse?). A friend of Lisa's told her about me so she took me in as this was before she had the Adoption Program through Cat Tail Kitties.

Cat Tail Acres Sanctuary took in 60 cats in the past few months, so we are back to our desired capacity of 200 cats....until further notice.
SANCTUARY WISH LIST:
Still need any sort of Security System, but esp. the type with cameras that are hooked into a computer or smart phone so the cats can be monitored when no one is at the sanctuary. Warm blankets, that can be easily washed. Always need dry and canned cat food (except for dry and canned Kroger brand which for some reason the cats don't like). Don't forget to approach pet store managers to ask them for dry and esp. canned cat food donations. And also ask them if they have any recently expired foods they plan on discarding and can give you to pass on to us instead. HAPPY TAILS!: The dog, Benson, rescued by Lisa and featured on the front page of our Holiday '12 Newsletter was placed in a loving home! MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Our four 2013 Poker Fundraisers will now be held at SUNNYBROOK Poker Room, located at 7191 E. 17 Mile Rd., Sterling Heights, MI 48044. Our fundraiser dates are as follows: 10/27-28-29-30; 11/24-25-26-27; 12/22-23; and 12/30-31 & 1/1-2 Since the last two are around the holidays, we are concerned about finding enough volunteers to help us, so please let us know if you are willing to help us on those, or any of the other dates, by emailing us at: [email protected] |
